SKILL LEVEL: ALL LEVELS  INSTRUCTOR: PAM PINAULT

As you can see from the photo, although I intended to sculpt a “generic” face for an example, clay sculpture rarely allows the artist to have the final say in the outcome! The fun is in discovering what the clay has in store! I hope you will come explore this process with me!

Session 1: The basics of preparing the base for a sculpture will include creating a foil armature and securing it on a pedestal mount. Basics of facial proportion and feature detail will be explored. Students will bring their sculptures home for finishing touches and to bake the clay.

Session 2: We will cover finishing detail. Polymer clay can be sanded and painted to refine the piece and bring it to life.

This course is suitable for all levels of experience.

This is an exploration of the fantasy realm. Students are encouraged to find pictures of fairies, gnomes, elves, to use as references. The example photos demonstrate how my chosen prop, a mounted duck decoy, serves as a base for my clay sculpture. Students will be asked to bring a base of their choosing such as a rock, driftwood, tea cup…anything to serve as support for the sculpted figure. All other materials will be provided.

Session 1: We will be creating a wire armature. Basics in body proportion, positioning, and use of the base will be explored. Polymer clay will be applied to the armature and the basic composition of the piece will be refined.

Session 2: Detail work on the sculpture will continue. Decisions on costume and hair will be made.

Session 3: Finishing details will be addressed. Sculpture will be taken home by students to bake.

Session 4: Costume and painting details completed.

This course is suitable for all levels of experience. Cost includes all materials, except base (as explained above).
